John Simpson's Mission: Climb Mt Kilimanjaro

The world’s highest free-standing mountain.

“In September 2010 John Simpson, an active part of Folkestone Methodist Church and committee member of StageOne: Christian Drama Co-operative, will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care. The 6-days of trekking will take him to the official summit of Kilimanjaro – Uhuru Peak – which is, at 19340 feet above sea-level, the highest point in Africa and makes Kilimanjaro the world’s highest free-standing mountain.

A minimum of £3750 has to be raised, £3000 of which has to be sent to Marie Curie in advance of the trek. All the money will go towards Marie Curie’s ‘Nurse Appeal’; currently they have 26 nurses in Kent who care for terminally ill patients in their own homes, and are trying to raise an additional £239,000 to increase this number. If you wish to sponsor John, you can do so through his JustGiving page at http://original.JustGiving.com/JohnSimpson; this is a safe and secure way of donating online, and all money donated will go directly to the charity and not through any third party. Alternatively you can email him via JohnSimpson@StageOne.org.uk if you would like to make other arrangements or to offer support or prayers for the trek and the fund-raising.

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality nursing totally free, to give terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their families. Your local Marie Curie Hospice actively promotes quality of life for people with cancer and provides support for their families. The services are completely free to patients. World class scientists at the Marie Curie Research Institute are investigating how cancer develops to find better ways of treating the disease in the future. Charity Registration No 207994 (England & Wales) and SCO 38731 (Scotland)”
